Privacy Policy

How Restart collects, uses, and protects your personal information — with straight answers on data sharing, retention, and your rights.

Last updated April 18, 2026

Overview

Restart sells new and certified refurbished IT hardware to businesses, and running that marketplace means handling some of your personal information. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We wrote it to be read, not filed — if something is unclear, email us at [[email protected]].

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a hashed password. If you sign in with a third-party provider, we receive your email and a stable identifier from that provider — not your social password.

Order information

To fulfil an order we collect your shipping address, billing address, phone number (for carrier updates), and the items in your cart. Payment is handled by Stripe; see below.

Usage information

We log device, browser, IP address, and the pages you view on the site. We use this to debug issues, measure performance, and detect fraud. We do not sell this data.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies for authentication, cart persistence, and aggregate analytics. You can update your cookie choices at any time using the cookie preferences icon in the bottom-left of every page.

How we use it

  • Process and ship your orders, and communicate about them.
  • Provide customer service, including warranty and return handling.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations.
  • Improve the site — which listings surface, which descriptions are confusing, where checkout breaks.
  • Send marketing emails only if you opt in. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Sharing

We share the minimum information necessary with a small number of vendors who help us operate:

  • Stripe — we use Stripe to process payments and never receive your full card number.
  • [Fraud screening provider] — risk scoring on orders to protect both sides of the marketplace.
  • Fulfilment partners and carriers — the warehouse preparing your order and USPS, UPS, or FedEx, depending on the shipment.
  • Email and analytics providers — for transactional email, support ticketing, and aggregate product analytics.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with data brokers. If we are ever compelled to disclose information by law, we push back where we can and notify you where legally permitted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct — update anything inaccurate in your account.
  • Delete — ask us to erase your account and associated data, subject to legal retention duties (tax and fraud records, primarily).
  • Export — receive a machine-readable copy of your data.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell, but you can still formally register this preference.
  • Object or restrict — limit how we use your information for specific purposes.

To exercise any of these, email [[email protected]] from the address on your account, or write to us at the postal address below. We respond in most cases within one business day and always within the statutory window that applies to your jurisdiction.

Retention

We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Order, tax, and fraud records are retained for the period required by applicable law — typically seven years — even after account deletion. Usage logs are retained for a much shorter window and are aggregated or discarded thereafter.

International transfers

Restart operates from the United States. If you access the site from outside the US, your information will be transferred to, processed, and stored there. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses and similar mechanisms to protect data in transit.

Changes to this policy

When we make material changes we update the "Last updated" date above and, if the change is significant, notify account holders by email. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Contact

Questions, requests, or concerns can go to [[email protected]], through our contact page, or by post.
